CedarDB
CedarDB is a high-performance, PostgreSQL-compatible database system built to unify transactions and analytics. It was spun out of TUM’s Umbra research project and targets modern hardware with a focus on speed and efficiency.
CedarDB originated from the Umbra research project at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), where its team set out to rethink database performance for modern hardware. The company describes a focus on pushing the limits of multicore processors, memory, and fast storage since 2017, turning research into a production-oriented database system.
In 2024, CedarDB spun off from TUM with a mission to deliver high-performance database technology without compromises. Today, CedarDB positions itself as 'the Database for the Age of AI,' aiming to unify transaction and analytics workloads in one system. It emphasizes a PostgreSQL-compatible interface and 'zero-friction' integration with existing tooling, while highlighting engineering approaches such as a state-of-the-art optimizer, efficient code generation, and execution that fully leverages modern SSD and cloud storage.
