BayWa r.e. Data Services GmbH – a wholly-owned subsidiary of BayWa r.e. AG – is responsible for all data related topics in the BayWa r.e. group. We operate control centres in Europe and APAC, ensure a cyber secure connection to the assets worldwide, deliver cutting-edge data analytics products, and recently took responsibility for the operation on Battery Systems in Europe. To support further growth path, we are looking for a Head of BESS Asset Operations EMEA (m/f/d).
What You will do
Lead and develop the BESS asset operations team across the EMEA region, setting direction, standards, and culture
Take full ownership of technical and operational performance across the BESS portfolio, including availability, degradation, and dispatch optimization
Define and enforce operational procedures, safety standards, and maintenance strategies for battery assets
Drive revenue optimization by working closely with trading, optimization, and market teams on dispatch strategy
Manage relationships with EPC contractors, O&M service providers, OEMs, and grid operators across multiple markets
Oversee asset performance reporting and KPI dashboards, providing actionable insights to senior management and investors
Lead root cause analysis and technical resolution of operational incidents and warranty claims
Monitor regulatory and grid code developments across EMEA markets and ensure operational compliance
Build scalable operational processes and digital tooling to support portfolio growth across new geographies
Monitor market requirement, develop new service offerings and support the execution of go-to-market strategies.
What You Bring
Proven leadership experience in BESS or energy storage asset operations — you have run a team, not just contributed to one
Deep technical understanding of battery storage systems, including BMS, PCS, SCADA, and grid integration
Hands-on experience with BESS performance monitoring, degradation modelling, and state-of-health analysis
Solid understanding of energy markets, ancillary services, and revenue optimization mechanisms relevant to storage assets
Track record of managing complex O&M contracts and holding service providers accountable to performance standards
Experience operating across multiple EMEA regulatory environments and grid codes
Strong commercial acumen — you understand how operational decisions translate into asset value and investor returns
Ability to communicate complex technical topics clearly to non-technical stakeholders, including C-level and investors
Fluent English, with additional European language skills a strong advantage
